Consulting

A complete consulting approach of family presupposes a perfectly organised interdisciplinary team of cochlear implantations with inter-scientific professionals. Consulting parents of small children with hearing loss is an important and enormous chapter that begins from the moment of statement of the results of diagnostic audiologic examinations.
From this point springs the particular responsibility of experts, for helping and for directing with their knowledge and experience, the parents to the right training of their children. This is achieved with individualised but also familial meetings - sessions with the consultants. The efforts for a narrow and efficient collaboration with the family should be conditioned from the following points:
1. The concerns for the operation and the anaesthesia, for the diagnostic methods, for the challenges in the programming and the mapping, as well as for the questions of reliability of the implants, should be faced.
2. The most effective educational help for the parents of children with hearing problems, is guiding them to obtain speechtherapeutic and pedagogic abilities for themselves, so as to become co-therapists.
3. The guidance of parents requires more precise knowledge of the education of the child in the family and requires more analytic observation and direction in the following points:
• The interaction of the parents between them and the interaction of parents – children and their interpersonal relations.
• The perception of common responsibility of both parents for the education, the training, the care and the follow-up of the child with hearing problems.
• The relations of brothers.
• The particularities of the personality of the parents, their educational level, their professional specialisation and activity.
• The acceptance of the children from the parents.
• The personal estimate of the parents for the place of the children in the family, in their educational institution and the society.
• The interfamilial relations of the parents and the effect of interfamilial environment in the education of the child with hearing problems.
• The place of the family in the social environment.
